This version of "Cyrano" (which like all is based on the novel by Edmond Rostand published in 1897) was first a musical stage play, adapted and directed by Erica Schmidt who just happens to be the wife of Peter Dinklage. This play was performed in 2018/2019 in Connecticut and off-Broadway in New York; for the film adaptation, they turned to directory Joe Wright (" Pride & Prejudice", #0669 "Atonement", #1197 "Darkest Hour"), who just happens to be the life partner of Haley Bennett. For the music, Schmidt had contacted indie-rockers "The National", who wrote and composed all the non-classical songs for the film. Bennett and Dinklage reprised their roles of love interest Roxanne and Cyrano de Begerac, of course.

It was to be expected that at the end of a year with at least six major movie musicals, we would get another one after #1338 "Annette"; how did you like this a little less out there approach to a movie musical? How would you rate the performances, by the leads as well as by Kelvin Harrison Jr. as lovelorn Christian, and by Ben Mendelsohn as the - of course - villainous De Guiche? How did you like this retelling of probably one of the most well-known stories not penned by Shakespeare or Jane Austen? Please let us know in a reply to this post.
