Indie weeks at the Sneak - for the third time in four weeks, the preview featured a film by a writer-director made with a rather small budget without help by a big Hollywood studio. "Rememory" is only the second movie by canadian filmmaker Mark Palansky, whose only previous cinematic effort, the fantasy-romcom "Penelope" with Christina Ricci, James McAvoy and Reese Witherspoon, is already more than a dozen years old. That doesn't mean that Palansky took a break, though - he was repeatedly signed onto projects by studios like Sony Pictures which unfortunately never coalesced into completed movies. He had also announced two sci-fi/fantasy projects with Peter Dinklage a decade ago (way before "Game of Thrones") which never materialized.

But the third time obviously was the charm; "Rememory", a moody sci-fi drama Palansky wrote with Mike Vukadinovich (who was only recently announced as screenwriter for the sequel "Beetlejuice 2") actually got made. The film was shot more than two years ago in the winter of 2016 which explains why we once again could see a performance by gone-too-soon actor Anton Yelchin (who passed away in June of that year). It premiered a year later in Winter of 2017 at a few film festivals, most notably Sundance, before it oddly enough premiered on (American) Google Play. After that, it had a small theatrical run and was simultaneously released via video on demand. In Germany, the rights were acquired by small distributor Kinostar, which is why the film is being sneaked right now.

The trailer for "Rememory" looks like this:

How did you like the film, which is a (very) distant cousin to "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" (where people tried to forget instead of remember things)? How did you enjoy the performances, most notably by Peter Dinklage, but also by Julia Ormond, Evelyne Brochu, Henry Ian Cusick, Martin Donovan, and of course Anton Yelchin? What did you think about the story, which - like last week - is a whodunnit on the surface, but really after something completely different? Just write your thoughts about "Rememory" into a reply to this post; no need to record them onto strange glass rectangles ...

Gute Idee, überraschender Twist gegen Ende (jedenfalls für mich) aber sehr zäh an vielen Stellen, mehr als erine 3 ist da nicht drin, aber die Erinnerung lösche ich mal lieber nicht ;)
