#1209 Unsane

"Unsane" is billed as the first horror film by veteran director Steven Soderbergh ("Sex, Lies, and Videotape", "Erin Brockovich", the "Ocean's Eleven" remake trilogy) - but looking at the film, it's much more of a psychological thriller than all-out horror. For a guy who claimed he would quit directing back in 2013 when promoting "Side Effects" (Sneak #0955), he's been pretty active, not only producing and directing three TV series, but also releasing two more sneak movies, "Behind the Candelabra" (#0977) and last year's "Logan Lucky" (#1179). "Unsane" is based on a script by writers Jonathan Bernstein and James Greer, who previously only scripted comedies, including the dreadful 2006 fantasy "Just My Luck" (#0607) starring Lindsay Lohan. As with "Side Effect" five years ago, this film combines a not-so-favorable view of the (American) mental health industry with an altogether different narrative centered around a young woman. Here's the trailer for "Unsane":
What did you think of the film? How did you like the performance by lead Claire Foy (who had a small part in "The Lady in the Van" two years ago, but is mainly known for portraying Queen Elizabeth II. in the TV series "The Crown")? How about the supporting players, from Joshua Leonard als maybe-stalker George/David, to fellow mental patients Jay Pharoah and Juno Temple? Please write down your thoughts about "Unsane" in a reply to this post - and don't worry, you're not committing to anything important doing that ...
